Abstract

This article aims to outline a brief, non-exhaustive list of the fundamental qualities of a good teacher. Tzvetan Todorov’s work and charismatic personality serve as a valuable source for illustrating the essential traits of those who not only transmit knowledge but also inspire by example. A sense of self-criticism and the ability to question one’s own beliefs, openness to others and a genuine desire to understand them, as well as an insatiable curiosity and a deep commitment to the transmission of knowledge – these are qualities Todorov conveys, both through his work and his interactions with others. In the long-standing yet ever-relevant debate on the role of education and the teacher as its main stakeholder, revisiting Todorov’s legacy remains a valuable exercise, helping to construct a well-founded argument, foster dialogue, and seek the best solutions.
